The Family Caregiver Forums

The Family Caregiver Forum

Brought to you by NFCA's Founding Corporate Partner

Welcome to the NFCA's Family Caregiver Forum - a place where all family caregivers can post questions, receive support and communicate with others."

National Family Caregivers Association

"NFCA is launching e-communities around the country to connect family caregivers to their peers in their own cities and states. Usually the most valuable and trusted resources and information for family caregivers needs to come from other caregivers within your community.

An e-community is a place for family caregivers to post questions and to seek advice on anything from 'where can I find a reliable caregiver to come in on a Sunday morning' to 'are there any local resources to help my teenagers better cope with Grandma moving into the house?' The e-communities are a great way to learn about local services with references, both positive and negative. An e-community creates a forum where members connect to one another via email. After registering, family caregivers will begin receiving emails with questions and information that is sent by other members and is received by everyone in the group. As a member of the e-community receiving these emails, it is your choice to read them or not and to respond or delete. Not every email or subject will be of interest to everyone. Family caregivers participating in the program choose what they want to read and when they want to respond on their own schedule."

creating false memories (confabulation)

Does anyone experience this? - Confabulation

Informative discussions found on the Alzheimers Online Boards

Use their "find" button to search for topics.

Confabulation: quoted from http://alzonline.phhp.ufl.edu/en/reading/Anosognosia.pdf
People with anosognosia will often confabulate. Confabulation is making up an answer or responding with remarks that link pieces of information, time, places, and people that do not belong together. Sometimes people will combine memories from different events and insist that the event unfolded that way. They may describe an event as recent but it actually happened decades ago with different people. Sometimes they mix information from the newspaper or television with a personal event.

Frame It With Color | Dementia & Alzheimer's Weekly

Frame It With Color | Dementia & Alzheimer's Weekly: "(Boston) -- 'Frame it with color' might soon become a mealtime dictum for those caring for individuals with dementias such as Alzheimer's in the more advanced stages.

According to visual perception research from a team at Boston University, the use of boldly colored tableware is a mealtime aid to those with severe dementias such as Alzheimer's. Such tableware helps individuals overcome a diminished sensitivity to visual contrast, a condition often found among people with advanced dementia. With bright 'frames' for the food and beverage in front of them, study participants were found to increase by 25 percent or more the amount they ate and drank."
